No distancing, no control, overcrowding beyond the permitted limits and a huge delay accumulated during the journey.
This is the bleak picture that presents itself to travellers and tourists on the Circumvesuviana today, Sunday 20 June. Suffice it to say that the train that left Naples at 8:11 this morning and headed for Sorrento arrived in the coastal town about 30 minutes late.
And to think it wasn't the main train for sea commuters. Yet there were no checks on board, passengers crowded together (as the attached photo shows), and above all, an inexplicable delay in the timetable. The delay became unbearable given the heat and the large number of passengers on board. The delays accumulated dramatically from Pompeii Villa of the Mysteries to Castellammare di Stabia due to the track doubling works.

Beyond the superficial declarations of the president of EAV , Umberto De Gregorio, this is certainly not a good calling card for tourism in Naples and its province: especially for the Sorrento Peninsula.
