Gragnano. “A new fatal accident has occurred on the construction site of Metro Line 1, in the section between the Centro Direzionale and Capodichino”. This was stated in a note by the general secretary of Fillea Cgil of NAPLES, Giovanni Passaro, explaining that the victim, Luigi Manfuso, 59 years old, from Gragnano, was an employee of a company on behalf of Metropolitana di NAPLES and leaves behind two children and a wife.
“We cannot call them 'misfortunes', it is urgent to revise the national legislation on work, introducing the crime of 'culpable homicide' and reopen a contractual season that recovers greater power of control and negotiation on the organization in the workplace”, continues the general secretary of Fillea Cgil of NAPLES.
“In the face of yet another death at work – Passaro states – the same cries of indignation and denunciation will always be raised. The same ones we hear with every fatal accident, now an average of three a day. Necessary and well-motivated indignation, but not enough. Instead, it is urgent to intervene on the causes that are at the root of these tragic accidents”.
“Without any qualms, it is good – according to Passaro – not to underestimate the propensity of companies to reduce costs, to save on safety, to push work rates to unattainable limits”. “The ever-increasing blackmailability of the workforce, together with the responsibilities of companies in reducing safety costs – concludes Passaro – are at the root of this deadly surge in fatal accidents”.
