Disciplinary proceedings have been opened against the woman dubbed the anti-vax police officer, Nunzia Alessandra Schilirò, deputy commissioner of Rome who on Saturday in the capital went up on stage declaring out loud that the Green Pass is “absolutely incompatible with our Constitution”.
The controversy erupted after the police officer spoke out on Saturday in Piazza San Giovanni during a demonstration against the green certificate. But she defended herself with a post on Facebook: “I was just a free citizen exercising her rights. If the administration doesn’t like my loyalty to the Constitution and the Italian people, I’m sorry, I’ll carry on anyway.”
The accusation against her, however, starts from the fact that she appeared on stage as a director of the State Police and not as a simple citizen. For this reason - it is what is leaking - the hypothesis would be that of damage to her image: hence the decision to contest her behavior. Furthermore, it would seem that an evaluation is underway to understand if there are grounds to also charge her with the crime of 'incitement to disobey the laws', for having seen the Green Pass defined as "illegitimate".
Interior Minister Luciana Lamorgese is following “the matter personally with the Chief of Police Lamberto Giannini”, so that “the responsibilities of the interested party under every legally relevant aspect are ascertained with absolute speed”. But the policewoman replies: “I will always carry on, with or without uniform, for the love of my country”.
Moreover, on the stage of the demonstration, the vice-questor did not mince his words: "I am here to disagree with the green pass which is absolutely incompatible with our Constitution. No right can be subordinated to a green certificate".
In a Facebook post she was very direct: “It is nice to learn from the newspapers, rather than from her own administration, that she is already under disciplinary proceedings” while saying she was “very calm”. In a few hours her post collected 8.000 likes and 2.600 comments, many of which were positive. On Twitter the story is much debated and the controversy between supporters and detractors rages.
Schiliro' reiterated her position on Facebook and claimed her actions: "Yesterday I had the opportunity to exercise my rights provided by the Constitution and I did it. The job I do is public. I have received four awards from civil society for my professional results", while "yesterday I was just a free citizen exercising her rights. If the administration does not appreciate my loyalty to the Constitution and to the Italian people, I am sorry, I will continue anyway".
Because for the policewoman "demonstrating - she explained from the stage - is a bit like reporting a crime: sometimes you can choose whether to do it or not, but if you do it you have some chance of escaping from injustice, if you don't you have already lost because you have given up". And addressing her fellow police officers she concluded: "To those who say that we in the police force are called to enforce laws, I say that it is absolutely true, it's a shame that the Italian Green Pass is absolutely illegitimate".
The vice president of the Forza Italia group, Licia Ronzulli, expressed herself with equal firmness, hoping for a quick intervention by the Minister of the Interior Luciana Lamorgese "to suspend her from office". The position of the head of security for the Democratic Party, Enrico Borghi, was of the same tenor: "In a normal country, a vice commissioner of the State police enforces the laws, he does not go up on a stage to give a fourth-rate rally that incites insubordination and calls for non-compliance with the laws. It is a slap in the face to the forces of law and order. Measures, please".
EVEN THE POLICE UNION ATTACKS THE NO VAX POLICEWOMAN
The union does not defend Schiliro' either. Indeed, the spokesperson for the National Association of Police Officers, Girolamo Lacquaniti, urges her to resign "for consistency" and maintains that Schiliro' "harangued that same crowd from which a group of troublemakers broke away and used her words while attacking police officers and carabinieri on duty".
