Durante l’incontro di oggi al MiSe, chaired by Minister Giorgetti and Deputy Minister Todde, Invitalia presented a plan for the Whirlpool site in Naples.
The Minister for Economic Development, Giancarlo Giorgetti, immediately after the Confindustria assembly, participated in the Whirlpool table at the Mise. The company, the Mise informs in a note, accepted the minister's request to suspend the procedure until mid-October to evaluate Invitalia's proposal for the relaunch of the Naples site, in the face of specific commitments from everyone. "The government's effort is to find a serious perspective - he said - of industrial reconversion. It is worth examining this project in depth. I thank the company and the unions for their willingness to examine the path presented today".
Giorgetti had in fact asked the company, during the meeting, to facilitate the possibility of examining the dossier in greater depth, which he underlined was “complex and ambitious. The consortium members are serious people and everyone has a duty to verify that the project can stand on its own two feet.” The definition of a calendar of technical discussions for the next few days has been agreed.
“The reindustrialization plan for the Whirlpool site in Naples proposed by the Ministry of Economic Development is good, but now we need to delve into the merits of the projects in order to understand the timescales and guarantees for the workers.” This is the position expressed by Barbara Tibaldi, national secretary of Fiom-Cgil and responsible for household appliances, at the meeting on Whirlpool at the Mise.
“We thank the Mise, today represented in its entirety, it is an element of guarantee. The hypotheses of reindustrialization – Tibaldi says – are complex and deserve further investigation. The concern arises over timing, given that the collective dismissal procedure expires on September 29th”.
"Well - continues – that there be a first illustration of the proposal. Let us discuss the concreteness, we will never say yes or no until we know how many workers will be hired, with what contract and what the guarantees of this project will be. Let's get into the merits and time must be managed seriously and we are available”.
“We need all the parties involved to be present and there to be an understanding between serious people to find a concrete solution. We ask – concludes – a calendar of meetings to examine the merits of this project”.
Gianluca Ficco, national secretary Uilm responsible for the household appliances sector, and Antonello Accurso, secretary of Uilm Campania, spoke during a suspension of the meeting with the multinational at the Ministry of Economic Development. "The plan, according to Invitalia, was developed along the lines of development outlined with the PNRR - explain Ficco and Accurso - and focuses on the creation of a sustainable mobility hub, starting from the automotive and rail transport supply chains already present in Campania. Invitalia has specified that it is working to create a consortium of companies specialized in different industrial sectors and the first members have been identified, with 5 initiatives and an estimated investment of 87 million".
HERE IS THE GOVERNMENT'S WHIRLPOOL PLAN
The plan includes production and assembly of seats for automotive, railway and naval; pilot plant for the industrialization of fuel cells for mobility; development of projects for the technological evolution of SMEs in the mobility supply chain; engineering services for mobility; testing of materials specifically for automotive and railway.
“As a union – Ficco and Accurso conclude – we ask first to know the names of the entrepreneurs involved, before expressing any judgment. It is in fact essential that they are real entrepreneurs, industrialists, who have credibility, capital and knowledge of the sector. Then of course we will have to study in depth the ways and times of starting the project, as well as the methods of hiring all the workers”.

Rosario Rappa, general secretary Fiom-Cgil Naples in his speech during the meeting at the Ministry of Economic Development, addressing the Government, he wanted to underline: "We have said that we are available to discuss without prejudice an industrial plan for the re-employment of workers. The consortium's proposal gives us the context in which to move. Before releasing any reservations we will make a final assessment when we have clear who the industrial subjects involved are, the plan, the timeframe, the employees and the regulatory and economic conditions".
