UAn off-duty policeman witnesses the theft of a bag, chases the mugger and arrests him.
It happened yesterday evening in Capua, in the province of Caserta, where a 27-year-old was arrested in flagrante delicto for the crimes of theft by snatching, resisting a public official and personal injury.
The policeman, off duty from the Caserta Flying Squad, was in the centre of Capua in his car when he noticed two men approaching a woman on a bicycle and snatching her bag.
The policeman then started chasing them, first by car, then on foot, managing to reach the man in possession of the bag and stop him. The latter, learning that the person who intervened was a member of the State Police, tried again to break free to escape but was still immobilized and arrested.
In the meantime, other police officers from the Flying Squad intervened and, having ascertained the good physical conditions of the woman, who fell to the ground during the pickpocketing, accompanied her to the Police Headquarters. Here, after having her bag back, the woman filed a complaint and recognized the man as the main person responsible for the theft. The pickpocket was placed under house arrest pending the summary trial.
