“No, I never expected that. When my lawyer explained to me that a judge was exonerating my ex, with the image of a man who has to overcome a woman’s resistance to obtain sexual intercourse, I felt hurt again. I admit: I was shocked to know that those words came from a woman.”
This was stated in an interview with la Repubblica by the woman who had reported her ex-husband for sexual violence and mistreatment, commenting on the request for archiving advanced by a PM of the Benevento Prosecutor's Office with words that have sparked bitter controversy.
In the reasons, in fact, the alleged violent acts reported were considered "carnal acts that must be scaled down in their scope". The documents include the prosecutor's consideration that sometimes the man must "overcome that minimum resistance that every woman, in the course of a stable and lasting relationship, in the tiredness of daily chores, tends to exercise when a husband attempts a sexual approach".
Do you regret having reported? “No, on the contrary. I still believe in justice. And I understand, after what happened, that this battle must be fought with our heads held high, all together”.
