The protagonists of Gomorrah (Ciro Di Marzio and Petro Savastano) are more famous than Giancarlo Siani, the Camorra bosses Raffaele Cutolo and Paolo Di Lauro are more famous than Don Peppe Diana and Annalisa Durante respectively.
These are the results of a questionnaire done in Campania in schools Napoli promoted in thirty-one schools in Naples and its province by the regional councilor of Europa Verde, Francesco Borrelli, in collaboration with the newspaper The morning e Radio Marte , project coordinator Professor Ines Barone, teacher at the Cantone high school in Pomigliano d'Arco.
Over ten thousand students were interviewed, anonymously and on a voluntary basis. Fifteen questions. The result is a chiaroscuro picture where on the one hand a large percentage of students emerges who recognize the value of rules for a correct social life, on the other some answers that seem to wink at the underworld and its "values". In particular, it is perplexing to know that one in three kids believes that a boss has qualities and is a person worthy of respect (a percentage that rises to 40% in the schools of Castellammare).
Or learn that 34,6% of those interviewed do not consider omertà something to be condemned and 36,6% answered the same question with 'I don't know'. The questionnaire also shows a request for help, that is, the desire of the kids to talk more about the mafia in schools (52% believe that it is not talked about much and 41% say they are poorly informed about the problem).
There is also little knowledge of innocent victims of the Camorra such as Gelsomina Verde (4%) or Maurizio Estate (8%) or the anti-Camorra priests Don Maurizio Patriciello (9,8%) and Don Luigi Merola (28,4%). “Data that makes you think – Borrelli underlines -. From a cultural and social point of view, the Camorra is taking over.
Culturally, media figures, or even worse, real criminals, are known or even esteemed more than the heroes of the past and present. The kids are watching us and if we behave badly starting from social media, Tik Tok above all, it is clear that the drift will be unstoppable”.
Doubts about the real understanding of the questions were raised by the regional councilor for Education Lucia Fortini: "We should read carefully how they are formulated, in my opinion some can mislead the student. For example, the one on the code of silence, I doubt that the kids have actually understood it. The invitation remains to try to involve our students more with respect to certain topics and work with respect to the knowledge of some people who for us are heroes"
