The skeleton of a horse and the house of Ceres, two important new additions to the visit offer of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii.
From June 14, the house of Ceres will open to the public after the works that involved the restoration of the decorative apparatus, from the mosaic floors to the frescoes of the first style, the remaking of the roofs and the restoration of the garden with the cultivation of cereals, barley and soft wheat and other species inspired by the cults of Ceres.
The house owes its name to the terracotta bust of the goddess Ceres, divinity of the earth and fertility, tutelary deity of the harvests, found in one of the rooms opening onto the atrium, and probably part of the furnishings of a small domestic place of worship.
The domus has also been the subject of a plan to enhance and improve the path of fruition which includes the artistic lighting of the decorative apparatus, the construction of a walkway connecting the atrium and the garden and the display in glass cases of finds discovered in the house.
Along the same Via di Castricio, on which the residence overlooks, in a room opposite, visitors will be able to admire again the skeleton of an equine discovered in 1938 by Amedeo Maiuri, following the restoration and enhancement intervention that has allowed a new layout, which will propose its exhibition in a more scientifically correct position, with a new structure and materials, suitable for the microclimate and able to ensure the necessary conditions for the protection of the horse.
All the details of the interventions will be illustrated on June 14th at 11,30 by the Director Gabriel Zuchtriegel together with the officials responsible for the area and the construction sites.
