Naples, they flee in a car in reverse: two 14-year-olds from the Caivano Roma camp stopped after a chase
The Carabinieri of the Naples mobile radio unit arrested two 2-year-old boys of Roma origin and residents of the Caivano nomad camp last night for attempted theft, resistance and injury to a public official.
It's 1am in Soccavo and the Carabinieri are driving along Via Terracina when they notice a parked Fiat Punto.
The passenger is in the car while the driver is outside while he is next to a car identical to theirs. At the sight of the flashing lights the boy runs into the car and runs away. A movie chase but it's all real and even in this case reality surpasses imagination. Like an expert driver he goes in reverse on via Terracina with the gazelle flashing and orders to stop. The driver insists and the chase continues with lots of special effects.
The Punto, in fact, has a wheel without a tire and the sparks from the rim on the asphalt light up the night. They arrive – still in reverse – at via comunale cinthia and at the intersection a spin-out allows the fugitives to head towards the ring road.
Another Gazelle from the Bagnoli company's radiomobile section arrives to support and the chase continues along the ring road towards Pozzuoli with sparks zigzagging between the cars occupied by incredulous passengers.
The driver is not willing to stop and only thanks to the experience of the Carabinieri the worst is avoided. A Gazelle overtakes the Punto while the other car of the colleagues remains attached behind thus creating a bottleneck.
The 2 can do nothing but surrender and the car slows down and then stops at the Pozzuoli junction. The soldiers get out and with no small effort manage to stop the 2, only realizing at that moment that they were 14 year olds.
We return to where it all began and the Carabinieri find the car where the 2 arrested were stationed. One of the windows was shattered but the owner thanked the Carabinieri anyway. “A window to repair but still a car to drive”.
The minors were transferred to the Colli Aminei first reception center awaiting trial.
For one of the Carabinieri a contusive-distortive trauma of the 4th finger of the right hand. The car in which the minors were aboard was seized, it was already subject to administrative seizure and without insurance.
