Jazz Inn Capri kicks off, first guest Nino Buonocore at the Certosa di San Giacomo
Twelfth anniversary for Jazz Inn Capri. The Certosa di San Giacomo will be the suggestive setting, under the ancient vaults of the fourteenth-century complex in the heart of the old town of Capri, a two-day event of refined music performed by the masters who dedicate themselves to this style for jazz enthusiasts.
This year's special guest will be Nino Buonocore, the voice of “Scrivimi” who will open the festival on Wednesday 31 August at 21 pm. A Neapolitan artist who has written important pages of Italian pop music from the XNUMXs onwards, Buonocore will revisit his repertoire in a jazz key with an exceptional band and a truly unique sound that condenses all his wealth of experience gained with great musicians, who brings his “all the best” reinterpreted in a jazz key thanks to the contribution of excellent artists and special guests, for a new and interesting project.
The basic quartet formed by Nino Buonocore on guitar and vocals, Antonio Fresa on piano, Antonio De Luise on double bass and Amedeo Ariano on drums, will see Max Ionata on saxophone as a special guest on wind instruments.
The performance that will be staged in Capri has its origins in Rome, at the Auditorium Parco della Musica on February 27, 2020 for the first live album in forty years of career. Songs from the repertoire such as Scrivimi, Rosanna (Sanremo 1987) and Abitudini will be rearranged and embellished with solo improvisations and the freest digressions of jazz. The second evening of the review on the blue island is dedicated to a great big name of American jazz piano, David Kikoski.
Kikoski, one of the most complete and effective pianists on the world jazz scene for many years, who boasts a consistent curriculum as leader of his own trios, including at times the drummers Al Foster, Billy Hart and Ben Perowsky, and the bassists Eddie Gomez, Essiet-Essiet, Ed Howard and James Genus, will perform in Capri with a trio enriched by the great Italian-born but American-adopted bassist Paolo Benedettini, a student of the legendary Miles Davis bassist, and by the drummer Elio Coppola, also artistic director of Jazz Inn Capri.
Coppola, although young, has already “lent” his rhythms to international artists such as Benny Golson, Joey De Francesco, George Cables, Jerry Weldon, Shawnn Monteiro, Ray Mantilla, Ronnie Cuber, Enrico Rava. The trio will present a repertoire with unreleased songs and American classics expertly rearranged by the piano champion for a concert with a strong sound impact. The evenings will begin at 21:XNUMX pm and will all be free admission until seats are filled.
