Milan, fake and expired buffalo mozzarella destined for customers seized. The scam was discovered by the Carabinieri.
The seizure, of over 50kg of Campanian buffalo, took place in Milan by the surveillance agents of the Protection Consortium, involved in a joint operation conducted with the Carabinieri of the Agri-food Protection Department of Turin.
The producer, with several points of sale between Campania and Lombardy, was abusively using the logo and name of Mozzarella di Bufala Campana Dop, passing off as Bufala Dop a mozzarella made with a mixture of cow's and buffalo milk.
He had even reproduced the Consortium's logo without any authorization. The fake Hoax packages have been seized and the expired products will be destroyed. The manufacturer was fined 20 thousand euros, but the investigations are still ongoing.
Only in the months of July and August was the anti-counterfeiting task force intensified, resulting from the synergy between the Consortium, law enforcement and the Central Inspectorate for Quality and Fraud Repression (ICQRF) of the Ministry of Agricultural Policies.
5 seizure operations were carried out, following which approximately 200 kilos of falsified mozzarella, 40 thousand packaging bags were seized for a total of over 30 thousand euros in fines and 2 people were reported to the Public Prosecutor's Office for commercial fraud.
