Poggioreale. Almost 9 months have passed since the collapse at the cemetery of Poggioreale which affected the two chapels of San Gioacchino and the White Doctors with 300 burial niches destroyed. An event that shocked, brought to despair and saddened many families who for months remained waiting, without receiving answers, to have news of the bodies of their deceased loved ones, so much so that for a long time they carried out a protest against the management of the cemetery and the Municipality.
Today that pain has been renewed and added to the humiliation. The perimeter wall of the cemetery where the collapse occurred has been used for advertising.
“Now yet another slap has been given to our loved ones… yet another insult, a sacred place transformed into an advertising market.
On those posters we MUST put the names of our loved ones so that we can keep in mind who is behind that wall. There are fathers, mothers, daughters, sons, wives, husbands...there are stories of men and women who have made the stories of their families.
NO TO BILLBOARDS
YES TO THE NAMES OF OUR LOVED ONES” – is the protest message from a representative of the relatives of the deceased who addressed the Regional Councilor of Europa Verde Francesco Emilio Borrelli.
“The municipality and the management have handled this matter very badly, disrespecting both the deceased and their families.” - declares Borrelli: “We ask that they remedy the situation by eliminating the advertising posters, which are absolutely out of place, and replacing them, if necessary, with the names of those deceased who were outraged and offended. It is their duty”.
