Pozzuoli, the Cantieri della Cumana station will be closed starting October 3. EAV announces that the closure of the Cantieri della Cumana station in Pozzuoli is necessary for work to double the line.
The Cantieri station on the Cumana railway line in the Pozzuoli area will be permanently closed starting October 3rd. The Ente Autonomo Volturno announced the closure, stating that "the closure was necessary to continue work on doubling the line."
"The works ," states a press release from EAV, " will allow for the upgrade of the railway line, with the construction of the new passenger building at Pozzuoli station, followed by construction of the new station and the doubling of the line to Cantieri, as well as the regulatory upgrade of Gerolomini station."
To proceed with the closure of the Cantieri station, as we learn from the transport company, it is necessary to carry out the appropriate operations to adapt the equipment on the railway line, which must be carried out in the absence of train circulation. For this reason, the railway service on the Cumana line, in the section between Fuorigrotta and Torregaveta will be interrupted on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 October and will resume regularly at the start of service on Monday 3 October.
The train service will instead be regularly guaranteed between Montesanto and Fuorigrotta, according to the timetable currently in force, while on the section between Fuorigrotta and Torregaveta a replacement bus service will be established (timetables can be consulted on the Eav website).
“The doubling of the Cumana line and the construction of the new Pozzuoli station ,” the Ente Autonomo Volturno continues, “ will free the center of Pozzuoli from the railway crossing and, therefore, from all level crossings.”
The program includes the design and execution of the works to complete the doubling of the railway line along a stretch of about five kilometers. In addition to the railway equipment works of the new track, the construction of two new stations is planned, a tunnel about 500 meters long (Monte Olibano tunnel) and the consolidation of sections of the slope above the railway line and the adaptation of the safety systems of the tunnels along the line.
"The inconveniences currently experienced by the population of Pozzuoli, " EAV assures, " will be offset by a new redesign of the entire city center. Pozzuoli, already one of the Campania region's major tourist attractions, will become an even more beautiful city within about two years, following the completion of this major urban redevelopment project, with new green spaces."
