Since the early hours of this morning, in Vibo Valentia, Catanzaro, Reggio Calabria, Palermo, Avellino, Benevento, Parma, Milan, Cuneo, L'Aquila, Spoleto and Civitavecchia, State Police investigators have been executing an order implementing precautionary measures against 56 individuals.
All seriously accused, to varying degrees, of mafia-style criminal association, external participation in mafia association, extortion, illegal possession and carrying of weapons, kidnapping, fraudulent transfer of assets, illicit competition with violence and threats and illicit influence peddling, aggravated by the mafia method and facilitation.
But also corruption, disclosure of official secrets and criminal association aimed at receiving stolen goods and laundering agricultural machinery, aggravated by transnationality and mafia facilitation.
According to the Central Anti-Crime Director of the State Police, Francesco messina, “the powerful judicial police operation, brought to a conclusion today by the State Police in the provinces of Catanzaro, Vibo Valentia, Reggio Calabria, Rome, Palermo, Avellino, Benevento, Parma, Milan, Cuneo, L'Aquila and Perugia, has allowed the dismantling of a fierce mafia gang attributable to the "crime" of Vibo Valentia ndrangheta.
For at least 4 years, constantly engaged in the massive commission of various crimes ranging from mafia association, extortion, fictitious registration of assets, illegal possession of weapons, illicit influence peddling and corruption - these last two crimes aggravated by the mafia method - as well as criminal association aimed at receiving stolen goods and laundering agricultural machinery, aggravated by transnationality, with the consequent pollution of the local economy, thus ending up by conditioning the economic and commercial freedom of the entire social fabric of the coast and the areas near the renowned tourist resort of Tropea".
“The enormous amount (250 million euros) of the value of the assets subjected to preventive seizure – adds Messina – (with a provision issued at the request of the Catanzaro DDA) because they can be traced back to the illicit activities of the mafia association, confirms the economic power of a 'ndrangheta clan finally hit – in compliance with a truly effective and incisive contrast strategy pursued by the Central Anti-Crime Directorate of the State Police in recent years – also in its economic as well as military interests”.
