Attila's arctic slashes without end. A new cyclone will reach the south with bad weather intensifying. The cyclone is expected to rise from Libya after having deepened in the last hours on the Strait of Sicily: it will gain power on the still warm waters of the Mediterranean and will cause a worsening on the Major Islands and the Ionian regions.
Temperatures will drop by up to 8 degrees below average
From its southern position it will attract polar and arctic air from Russia towards Italy: temperatures will drop again over the weekend to values 8 degrees lower than the average for the period. According to meteorologists, the pressure will drop between today and tomorrow to 1002 hPa on the Ionian Sea and will cause a strengthening of the winds, a progressive increase in instability with storms and rain arriving in much of the South and Sardinia.
This new disturbance will move from Sardinia and Sicily towards Calabria, Basilicata and Puglia: snowfall is also expected above 700 metres on the Major Islands, later and in particular tomorrow, also on part of the central-southern Apennines.
A cyclonic situation that will persist until Saturday with the low pressure that is then expected to move towards Greece. In detail, in the next few hours, heavy rains, thunderstorms and snowfall are expected in Sardinia, with the limit of the white lady around 700-800 meters; on the island of Nuraghi the most intense phenomena are expected on the Tyrrhenian sector, even persistent.
In Sicily, bad weather will appear with showers and a drop in temperatures, while in the southern peninsula it will arrive more slowly. The worst day for much of the South, at the moment, is expected tomorrow with cloudbursts across the entire Ionian coast: the snow level could drop to around 900 meters in the South, while in the central Apennines to 400 meters.
On Friday the cyclone will bring more severe bad weather around the Gulf of Taranto; during the weekend, moving towards Greece, the cyclone will allow the entry of another Arctic slash by Attila with Russian cold intensifying over much of Italy.
This cold will however be dry in origin, coming down from mainly continental areas, and the precipitations of the weekend will be limited to the Adriatic areas and some areas of the extreme southern regions; in these areas we will however have snowfall at low altitudes, not excluding even in patches on the Adriatic beaches.
In the last weekend of January we will find the Italian winter with maximum temperatures between 2-4 degrees in the North, 5-6 degrees in the Center and 8-9 degrees in the South. Temperatures will be below the average for the period for at least 48-60 hours.
