In the two phone calls made after he had finished shooting, Vincenzo Palumbo allegedly gave himself away.
The hauler is accused of the double voluntary homicide of Giuseppe Fusella and Tullio Pagliaro, which occurred on the night between 28 and 29 October in HerculaneumThe man has always maintained that the thieves had entered his house, while speaking to the police he repeatedly stated "there are thieves outside the house" and again "I found two or three thieves outside my house... I fired a couple of shots...".
This was supported today during the hearing underway in Naples before the judges of the First Court of Assizes (president Teresa Annunziata) by the lawyer Gennaro Bartolino, legal representative of the Fusella family.
“He never apologizes to the victims – added Bartolino – he never said this word”, Giuseppe and Tullio, he adds “were two flowers cut, not by the sickle or the plow but by bullets. And they are the ones who speak, and tell us that the accused shot to kill, his were targeted shots”.
To support the theory that Palumbo had shot to kill, Bartolino highlights three points: there were street lamps near the defendant's home; the Panda had its headlights on and he had turned on the lights on his terrace before going out the door armed with a gun.
Furthermore, the weather conditions that night were optimal, so visibility was perfect and anyone, with his skills as a skilled marksman, if he wanted to intimidate potential thieves, could not have made mistakes by shooting. Furthermore, the distance between the car and the shooter was rather close: in essence, for an expert marksman like Palumbo it was truly impossible to miss the target.
Yet he hit the car several times, six times, killing first Giuseppe who was driving and then Tullio. "It is not a mistake, it is not an aberratio ictus", the lawyer highlighted. Fusella's mother, Immacolata Esposito, at this point, could not hold back her tears, overcome by despair she left the courtroom in pain.
