The Naples Public Prosecutor's Office has concluded its investigation into the death of Luigi Perrone, the 56-year-old inmate who died on September 18, 2022 due to a heart attack in a cell in the Livorno section of the Neapolitan prison of Poggioreale.
Deputy Prosecutor Francesca Falconi sent a notice of closure of the investigation to the two prison doctors who were on duty on September 17 and 18 of that year, accusing both of manslaughter. According to the report, drawn up by the three consultants appointed by the investigators, the two doctors did not notice that Perrone was having a heart attack, even though he was showing all the symptoms.
The two doctors, on the night between September 17 and 18 and on the day of September 18, limited themselves to administering drugs to the prisoner to control vomiting and nausea, and then also anti-inflammatories, while an electrocardiogram and an enzymatic sample (never performed) would have been enough to understand that it was actually a heart attack.
The victim's family, defended by the lawyer Domenico De Rosa, has always maintained that the death was due to the incompetence of the doctors (both defended by the lawyer Biagio Cipolletta).
