Last night, officers from the General Prevention Office, during their territorial control service, on the orders of the Operations Center, intervened in via Depretis following a report of a theft of a catalytic converter from a parked car.
The police officers, who arrived on the scene, confirmed that the catalytic converter was actually missing from the vehicle and were approached by two passers-by who said they had seen two people, a man and a woman, remove the catalytic converter from the car and then drive away on a scooter.
The operators, thanks to the descriptions provided, intercepted the scooter with the two on board in via Galileo Galilei but the driver, at the sight of them, accelerated to evade the control despite having been ordered to stop.
A chase ensued during which the latter performed dangerous maneuvers for road traffic until, having reached via Luigi Minale, the two got off the motorcycle in an attempt to continue their escape on foot but were caught and blocked; furthermore, they found several tools suitable for burglary in a woman's bag placed on the footboard of the scooter.
A 33 year old and a 29 year old, of Napoli with a police record, were reported for aggravated theft and resisting a public official; furthermore, the 33-year-old was also reported for unjustified possession of altered keys or lock picks and driving without a license having repeated the violation in the two-year period.
Finally, the man was charged with three violations of the Highway Code for driving a seized vehicle, lack of insurance coverage and failure to have a periodic inspection.
