There are three “beats for beauty” on June 23 at the Campania Teatro Festival. Starting, in the Sportopera Section, with “Heraclito e l'orologiaio”, taken from the collection “Piccolo teatro filosofico” by Aldo Masullo, which will be performed at 20 pm at the Teatro Nuovo with Francesco Roccasecca and Claudio di Palma, who also directed it.
The great philosopher, who passed away in 2020, proposed in this precious volume published by Mursia four dialogues, one of which is dedicated to Time. To the man who sells watches, “the Dark One” teaches that living is suffering, feeling, experiencing and that the secret is action. With the aim of discovering unknown possibilities of meaning. In the stage transposition, the original text finds a new symbolic location in the bodies of a swimmer and a timekeeper. The thoughts of the two are lighter, the reason for their dispute and their dialogue, while the place of the dispute is the edge of a swimming pool. The water is there, its reverberations on stage confirm its motion and justify Heraclitus' most famous statement: panta rei. Water probably remains the final destination of the thinker/swimmer, its flow under the strokes of the freestyle represents perhaps the most appropriate testimony of the making and unmaking of life in the same instant and, why not, of the absolute simultaneity of birth and death.
At 21.30:1700 pm, instead, at the Teatrino di Verzura in Villa Floridiana Gea Martire will be the protagonist of “La cappella di famiglia”, a short story by Marco Perillo set in Naples in the late XNUMXs. Theresa Blake is a twenty-three year old Irish lady who married the wealthy Neapolitan jurist Giordano Ascione. He is often absent from home, neglects his marital duties and she imagines that he might betray her. For Theresa there is no refuge other than prayer inside a family chapel, located next to their villa. She will soon discover that her husband is part of a sect of revolutionaries who aim to overthrow the throne of Ferdinand IV of Bourbon.
In the meantime, the woman meets a young fisherman named Antonio, to whom she will remain strongly attracted. In 1794 Giuseppe Ascione is discovered and imprisoned by the royal guards. Theresa, left alone for a long time, will have the opportunity to indulge in an unforgettable night in the company of Antonio. In January 1799 the French enter Naples forcing the Bourbons to flee to Palermo. Giordano Ascione and other patriots are freed, they actively participate in the political life of the newborn Neapolitan Republic. The fisherman Antonio, who remained faithful to the sovereign, is in danger. Theresa assures him refuge inside the family chapel, where however he does not enjoy asylum. In the fury of the last days of the Republic, even before the vengeful return of King Ferdinand, the two lovers will find themselves each having to deal with their own fate.
“The family chapel” is the new interesting segment of “The Royal Dream. The Bourbons of Naples”, the Special Project of the Festival, conceived by Ruggero Cappuccio and curated by Marco Perillo, which is produced by the Fondazione Campania dei Festival- Campania Teatro Festival. The reading of the same text, entrusted to the theatrical talent of Gea Martire, will be repeated on June 29th in the National Archaeological Museum of the Sarno Valley (Sa) and on July 8th in the locality of Foresta di Tora e Piccilli, in the province of Caserta.
Finally, at the Trianon Viviani theatre, at 20 pm, “Chiedete e vi sarà dato” (Ask and You Will Be Given) will be performed, a play by Andrea Jimenez, who is also the director of the show together with Pina Di Gennaro.
Ten women from different parts of the world come together to reflect on their relationship with desire, need and will. Women have long been seen as a tool to make the desires and fantasies of others, especially men, come true; but today their needs and desires, their fantasies will take center stage. They will have the courage to ask. It is not as easy as it seems…. “I do theater - writes the Spanish artist - with, for and about the people who are in the room, hoping to honor this unlikely meeting of people who would never have met otherwise. We will come together to raise the questions that cannot be answered with words. Dare to look at our fears. Surrender to tenderness. Embrace anger. To give a name to desire. To make it happen. To believe again. Dare to see and be seen. Whatever happens will be the only thing that could have happened. Let's make it joyful”. The event was born as part of the project “Quartieri di Vita. Life infected with social theatre!”, organized by the Fondazione Campania dei Festival, with the support of the Instituto Cervantes de Napoles and Eunic Global.
