In July, the Emergency Department of the Pineta Grande clinic in Castel Volturno It has once again confirmed itself as an essential point of reference for the coast between Caserta and Naples, but also for the hospitals in the hinterland, such as Aversa or Giugliano or those of the Neapolitan capital, which often, especially in the summer months when work shifts overlap with the holidays of doctors and nurses, direct users precisely towards the private and accredited structure on the Domitian coast, which also assists thousands of irregular immigrants who live on the coast.
Record numbers in August at Pineta Grande Hospital: almost 5 thousand visits (4790) to the Emergency Room against a monthly average of 3200 visits, and a peak of 176 visits recorded the day after mid-August (1533 visits in the week of August 15). Almost 400 (398) emergency surgical interventions were performed in August, of which 64 were for tumor removals against a monthly average of 50, and 73 orthopedic and trauma interventions with 96% of users operated within 48 hours of admission, while in the other months about thirty interventions of this type are performed.
Many lives saved in the middle of August, like that of a 23-year-old victim of a very serious motorcycle accident in Villa Literno; he should have gone, needing a trauma center for the more than twenty fractures suffered, to the public hospital of Aversa, and instead he was rushed on August XNUMX to the Pineta Grande clinic, where he spent two weeks in intensive care undergoing several life-saving interventions, and receiving the care and attention of a multidisciplinary team.
Shortly after his arrival, after midnight, the young man underwent an initial three and a half hour urgent abdominal surgery performed by the Surgery team led by Chief Francesco Stanzione to repair the lesions of the liver, kidney and spleen. After a few hours, around 15:XNUMX pm on August XNUMX, he returned to the operating room, where the vascular surgery and cardiac surgery team led by Rosario Mancusi repaired a traumatic lesion of the aortic arch with a vascular endoprosthesis of the thoracic aorta.
The young man returned to intensive care for a new worsening of his clinical conditions, and remained there for a week; as soon as he improved, he underwent thoracic surgery to free his airways by the team led by Francesco Petteruti, then he underwent another orthopedic operation by the head physician Domenico Falco, to reduce some of the more than twenty fractures. The 23-year-old was then taken back to intensive care, and after a few days, with his clinical conditions improving, he was transferred to the ward and was finally discharged on August 23.
