The investment continues Italo on intermodality. After the acquisition of Itabus and the launch of train-plus-bus services with a single ticket valid for both means of transport (which made their debut in the summer), the railway company has decided to expand its network to meet the great demand for shared transport.
The Italo – Itabus services, active in Campania, Puglia, Calabria and Sicily, have achieved positive results in the summer season: Pompeii, Sorrento, Gallipoli, Milazzo are just some of the destinations that have been most appreciated by travellers. For the upcoming season, therefore, Italo has decided to introduce some new features. As regards Campania, from 2 October 4 daily connections will be introduced that will connect Turin, Milan, Reggio Emilia, Bologna, Florence and Rome to Pompeii, Ercolano, Nocera Inferiore and Battipaglia (using the Naples Afragola station as an intermodal hub).
A line designed for the many tourists who go to visit the ancient excavations of the Campania cities at any time of the year, as well as for the citizens of the area, who will thus be able to be served by the High Speed. A new route will also be launched, operational from 18 October, which will connect Nola, Avellino and Grottaminarda with the cities of the central north. Up to 8 daily services on this new line, which will give the opportunity to many citizens of Campania to use the Italo high speed.
From today, instead, the line that connects Gioia del Colle, Massafra, Taranto and Brindisi to the cities of Turin, Milan, Reggio Emilia, Bologna, Florence, Rome, Caserta and Benevento with 4 connections per day is active in Puglia (Bari Centrale will be the intermodal hub where you can change between Italo and Itabus). Given the strong summer response, the trips to Calabria serving Sibari, Cariati, Cirò Marina and Crotone have been confirmed, to which the stop of Frascineto and that of Lauria in Basilicata have been added.
In this way, with the 2 daily services that connect Calabria to the large cities of the center-north, Basilicata also enters the Italo-Itabus intermodal network (on this line the train-bus change is done at the Naples Central station). In Sicily the services already operational and highly requested in the summer are maintained: 4 connections per day for the line that from Milan, Reggio Emilia, Bologna, Florence, Rome, Naples and Salerno serves Catania, Enna, Caltanissetta and Agrigento; as many services for the stops in Milazzo and Palermo (you arrive in Villa San Giovanni by train, the transfer by ferry is already included and once on the island you travel aboard Itabus).
"We strongly believed in these intermodal train plus bus services and the first results have proven us right. Throughout the summer, travelers have chosen Italo - Itabus solutions for their holidays, having the opportunity to visit destinations that were previously difficult to reach without a private vehicle. We are satisfied with the results obtained in these initial months, which is why we have decided to expand our network and launch new connections, thus supporting the infrastructural and tourist development of the territories", says Fabrizio Bona, Chief Commercial Officer of Italo.
