Even creativity from Campania in the animated film released today.
Four generations of women are the protagonists of “Mary and the Spirit of Midnight” by the Neapolitan director, screenwriter and animator Enzo D'Alò, whom the author accompanies to the cinema starting from his city. Produced by Paul Thiltges Distributions, Aliante, Jam Media, GOAG Productions, Rija Films, Amrion Production and Fish Blowing Bubbles, the upcoming film distributed by BiM, was made with the contribution of the Campania Region and the support of the Film Commission.
Set in Dublin, it is the story of eleven-year-old Mary who dreams of becoming a chef, supported by her very sweet grandmother Emer.
"At the beginning – D'Alò underlines – the idea of having to deal with the concept of loss disoriented me a bit but the strength of the protagonists definitely pushed me to carry on with this beautiful family story”.
For Titta Fiore, president of FC “D'Alò's poetic film confirms the talent of a master and underlines the importance of regional policies in support of the audiovisual industry and of a genre that is growing in the territory. It is no coincidence that a sector of the new District in the former NATO Base of Bagnoli will be dedicated to animation”. D'Alò confirms his willingness to collaborate in the District's entertainment activities.
"The film, already winner of prestigious awards and nominated for the European Oscars, where ten years ago Neapolitan animation achieved a flattering success, is an emotional story of female love and empathy that arrives in theaters on the eve of the Day against Violence against Women and takes on, in the midst of a dramatic emergency, a further value and a particular importance” Titta Fiore underlines. FC director Maurizio Gemma recalls “the presence of many artists and technicians from Campania and the direct commitment of companies such as Digitalcomoedia, Tile Storytellers, Controlzeta, who collaborated in the creation of the scenography and animations, in the color correction phase and in the pre-assembly”.
Presented at the Berlinale, nominated for the EFA, winner at the Chicago International Children's Film Festival, it is based on the novel “A Greyhound Of A Girl” by Roddy Doyle, adapted by D'Alò together with Dave Ingham.
