Instagram has introduced a new feature that recalls what is already available on TikTok: the ability to save reels created by public accounts directly to your camera roll.
Currently active in the United States, this option will soon go global. A simple click will be enough to download the video, which will be marked with a watermark, showing the name of the account creator of the reel and the Instagram logo.
For minors with public accounts, the download feature will be disabled by default, and it will not be possible to download reels published by private accounts.
The download process is simple: click on “Share” and select the download option. The video will be saved to your smartphone gallery like any other video. If the reel uses a licensed audio clip, the download will focus exclusively on the video.
Users also have the option to disable the download option for their reels. Simply follow these steps:
Open Settings.
Go to the Privacy section.
Select “Reels & Remixes” and uncheck “Allow people to download your reels.”
Adam Mosseri officially announced the feature in a post, confirming that you can now save reels from public accounts directly to your camera roll. Each downloaded reel will be watermarked, displaying the creator's Instagram handle. Initially launched in the US earlier this year, the feature is now available globally.
