The autopsy will determine the causes of death of the 77-year-old woman found dead yesterday in a trunk sealed with tape in the bedroom of a house in Mondragone, in the province of Caserta.
At the moment, the criminal case has been opened for concealment of a corpse, and the 40-year-old daughter who lived with the victim is under investigation. The woman, unemployed, told the police that her mother had had a domestic accident over a month ago, in particular she had fallen and hit her head and died, but she did not have the money for the funeral and had therefore closed the body in a trunk.

The Carabinieri of the Territorial Department of Mondragone they found that the 40-year-old had in the meantime received two months' pension. The autopsy will have to establish whether the 77-year-old actually died in a domestic accident or was murdered.
To find the body of the elderly, in an advanced state of decomposition, was the day before yesterday another daughter of the victim, who lives and works in Abruzzo, who returned to Mondragone because she was worried: for weeks, she said, she had been unable to get in touch with her mother, despite trying to call her and text her, only receiving messages from her cell phone in which she said she couldn't talk but was fine. The day before yesterday, however, the woman went to her mother's house and after making the macabre discovery she immediately called the police.
The Carabinieri investigations are still ongoing and are focusing on acquiring useful elements to clarify the causes of the woman's death and to establish whether the daughter under investigation acted alone or whether there were other people involved.
