Approximately 150 tons of refrigerant gas, identified as “hydrofluorocarbons” (HFCs) and subject to restrictions, were seized by officials of the Customs and Monopolies Agency at the Naples Customs Office 1. This operation is part of the controls aimed at protecting public health.
During the checks, labels were found indicating a military use, which theoretically should have benefited from exemptions from the quotas assigned by the European Commission to producers and importers. Subsequently, in-depth investigations into previous imports of the same product revealed that the declared military use by the importing company concerned only a minimal fraction of the total imported load.
As a result, it was revealed that the exemptions provided for military purposes were misused. The perpetrators of this violation were reported to the Judicial Authority, confirming the authorities' commitment to combating illicit behaviors that threaten the safety and regularity of imports, as well as the protection of public health.
