Daniel Iervolino, Chairman of the Salernitana, it is declared “stunned, astonished and worried” to be involved in an intricate espionage scandal. In an exclusive interview with the newspaper Il Mattino, Iervolino categorically rejects any involvement with the president of the FIGC, Gabriele Gravina, And with Claudio Lotito, underlining his total lack of involvement in the contested facts.
“I am in a state of total bewilderment and, like all Italians, I am very worried about this affair”, says Iervolino during the interview. The president of Salernitana anticipates the adoption of “actions to protect our name, our good conduct and our work, always legitimate and respectful of the law”.
Iervolino defends himself from rumors accusing him of having shared interests with FIGC president Gravina, stressing that he never met him personally before the acquisition of Salernitana. “It makes me smile to think that there were speculations of co-interests on my part with President Gravina before I bought Salernitana. I didn't know him except by name, I had no relationship with him”he declares.
The president of Salernitana emphasizes that he has not received any notice of guarantee from any Public Prosecutor's Office, neither from Salerno nor from Rome, in relation to the acquisition of the club. Iervolino reassures that the entire procedure was conducted according to the rules, through a regular public tender procedure.
Iervolino reveals that he became aware of the espionage incidents against him since 2019, well before the acquisition of Salernitana. “I hope not to file a dossier, but I intend to see clearly through my lawyers”, he says, announcing that he will take legal action to shed light on this affair.
Finally, regarding the investigations into the sale of Salernitana following the complaint of former owner Lotito, Iervolino states that he has nothing to hide and nothing to fear. “I am unaware of the events related to the sale of the club before my entry into the world of football on December 20, 2021. I did not know Gravina or Lotito before then”, concludes Iervolino, denying any involvement in the controversies regarding the transfer of Salernitana to the trustee and the alleged links between Lotito and Gravina.
