Two Lecce fans, aged 47 and 43 respectively, have been reported for aggravated robbery and assault, with the aggravating circumstance of having committed the crime against a minor during sporting events. They were identified by the Digos agents of the Lecce Police Headquarters as the perpetrators of a violent attack on a young Napoli fan during the match between Lecce and Napoli on 30 September 2023.
The victim, a fifteen-year-old resident of Salento, was heading with his father towards the Napoli sector when he was attacked for wearing a blue Napoli scarf. After being insulted, he was hit with a slap and a kick, and his scarf was torn off.
He suffered a trauma to the foot, which will heal in 4 days, and was taken to the hospital. The attackers fled, but were identified later.
The police chief issued 18- and 24-month bans on the alleged fans from entering sports venues. The match was considered risky due to rivalry between the fan bases, so measures such as increased security and limited ticket sales were taken.
A violent “modus operandi” has been noted by some Lecce fans who attack isolated or missing away fans during home matches. Investigations are also continuing regarding the attack on five Roma fans away from home in Lecce on 1 April.
