This morning, at the Prefecture di Napoli, a meeting was held on the future of the Galleria Umberto I.
The table dedicated to the implementation of coordinated interventions for the recovery, enhancement and safety of the famous site saw the participation of numerous institutional representatives and associations. The meeting, chaired by the prefect Michele of Bari, brought together the representatives of the Municipality of Napoli, of the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the Municipality of Naples, of the Chamber of Commerce, of the Industrial Union of Naples, of Aicast Imprese Italia, of Confesercenti, of Confcommercio and of Sidief Spa.
The focus of the discussion was the restoration plan for the Galleria pavement, which is being carried out with a rotation of construction areas in individual portions of the site. This strategy aims to minimize inconvenience to traders and residents, while always ensuring access to commercial premises and condominiums.
During the meeting, the representatives of the Superintendency reiterated the need for greater collaboration from the operators in this delicate phase of the works. “It is essential to respect all the regulations for the use of public land, including those concerning the loading and unloading of goods, especially heavy ones, which under no circumstances can be transported on the pavement of the monumental site,” an official note states.
Prefect Di Bari urged the representatives of the merchants' associations present to sensitize their members on the importance of scrupulously observing these prescriptions. He also asked the representatives of the Municipality of Naples to carefully monitor compliance with the regulations, thus ensuring that the restoration proceeds according to the established timetable.
The prefect stressed that “the brief sacrifice required of the Galleria operators will be amply repaid by the return to the community of an important cultural site, a heritage of all citizens and a destination for numerous tourists”. The associations and institutions present have assured their commitment and collaboration for the success of the works, aware of the importance of preserving and enhancing one of the architectural jewels of Naples.
