The events will take place from 14 to 16 June 2024. European Days of Archeology, promoted by the French Institut national de recherches archéologiques préventives and coordinated in Italy by the Directorate General of Museums and the Directorate General of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of the Ministry of Culture.
As part of the initiative, which for years has attracted a varied public of non-experts around the themes of archaeological dissemination, the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the municipality of Napoli proposes a detailed program of activities for Friday 14 June.
It begins with the opening of the site of Carminiello ai Mannesi, located in the street of the same name, a side street of Via Duomo where part of a block of ancient Neapolis is preserved. It is one of the few open-air archaeological sites in the historic center of Naples: here you can recognize structures with a residential function and thermal environments, in which a sacellum dedicated to the cult of the god Mithras was later built. The structures, dating back to between the end of the 1st century BC and the 2nd century AD, appear to be of considerable consistency and articulated on multiple levels. Their discovery took place after the bombings of the Second World War, which caused the destruction of the baroque church in which they were incorporated.
The initiative, already proposed with great public success, aims to increase the cultural offer of the ancient center, allowing access to an archaeological site not always open. Visitors will be welcomed by archaeological officials and technical collaborators of the Superintendence; guided tours, organized by the Manallart cooperative, will begin at 9.30:12.30; the last entry is scheduled for XNUMX:XNUMX.
At 19.30pm, in Sala Assoli, located in Vico Lungo Teatro Nuovo 110, will be held for the second consecutive year the meeting-show entitled Conversations on Neapolis. Stories and signs of a graeca urbs, organized in collaboration with Casa del Contemporaneo. The archaeological officials of the Superintendency will tell the story of the city by telling it through images, with particular attention to the sites that have been the object of excavation or restoration in recent years.
The choice to hold the meeting in a theater hall, already successfully tested last year for the Archaeology Days, aims to intercept a different audience and to contaminate the communicative form of the conference with that of the performing arts. The performance of the actress Martina Carpino will alternate with the interventions of the officials, presenting the reading of passages taken from ancient literary sources, while the images will be accompanied by music performed live by Marcello Gelone (guitar).
