A new wave of African heat is hitting Italy and much of Europe, promising record temperatures in the coming days. Forecasts announce a further strengthening of the African anticyclone, with temperatures reaching extreme peaks.
The most affected cities will be Foggia and Taranto, where 42°C is expected, followed by Benevento and Syracuse with 41°C. Agrigento and Ferrara will not be far behind, reaching 40°C. In the Marche, Umbria and lower Veneto temperatures will be recorded between 37°C and 38°C.
Rome will see temperatures approaching 40°C between July 18 and 20, with a perceived high of 41°C, according to Sanò. Milan will also suffer from the heat, with highs of 35°C and a perceived high of 39°C due to high humidity. This extremely hot situation will last at least until next weekend. Only in the Dolomites will there be a few hours of relief, thanks to possible heat storms.
The forecast for Tuesday, July 16, indicates that the north will be sunny and warmer, while the center will have plenty of sunshine with hot weather. In the south, however, the sun and African heat will dominate the day. On Wednesday, July 17, the sun and heat will increase in the north, while temperatures in the center are expected to rise, with Rome reaching 38°C. In the south, the sun will continue to shine and the heat will intensify. On Thursday, July 18, isolated heat storms are expected in the Dolomites in the north, while in the center the sun and intense heat will continue. In the south, the sun and heat will still be the protagonists.
The African heatwave will continue, with some heat storms in the eastern Alps that could locally reach the eastern plains. With this forecast, it is advisable to take precautions to protect yourself from the extreme heat, staying hydrated and avoiding direct exposure to the sun during the hottest hours of the day.
