An event of extraordinary importance will be held on Thursday, July 18 at 21:XNUMX p.m. in the Villa Comunale of Vietri sul Mare. The Italian Army Band, directed by Major Antonella Bona, will perform as part of the “Vietri in Scena” festival. This initiative is artistically directed by Maestro Luigi Avallone and supported by Mayor Giovanni De Simone and Councilor for Events and Culture, Daniele Benincasa. History and Awards of the Italian Army Band
The Italian Army Band was founded on February 1, 1964 to centralize the tasks and representative functions of the minor garrison bands. Since then, it has become the institutional musical ensemble representing the Armed Forces. Composed of 102 orchestral musicians, an archivist, a conductor and a vice-conductor, all professionals graduated from the most important Italian musical institutions and selected through a national competition, the Band is involved in institutional services and an intense concert activity both in Italy and abroad. Among the numerous participations in important events are the Verdian National Celebrations, the “Feste Musicali” of Bologna and the International Festival of Military Bands of Modena. It has also played with world-famous artists such as Placido Domingo and has taken part in prestigious events such as the “Festival dei Due Mondi” of Spoleto.
Major Antonella Bona: Profile and Achievements
Major Antonella Bona has a multifaceted education and a flexible artistic profile. She studied piano and composition, graduating in “Band Instrumentation”, “Choral Music and Choral Conducting” and “Orchestra Conducting” at the Conservatories of L’Aquila, Bari and Naples. She also obtained a diploma in “Band Conducting” at the Pescarese Music Academy, under the guidance of Maestro Fulvio Creux. In the world of lyric-symphonic repertoire, she specialized with Maestro Maurizio Arena, performing in works such as “Madame Butterfly”, “Traviata” and “Don Giovanni”. Since 2007, Antonella Bona has been the second director of the Italian Army Band and from 2013 to 2019 she was the Principal Conductor, conducting over 200 concerts in prestigious halls and international festivals. Her publications include works for Italian and foreign publishing houses. At the end of the concert in Vietri sul Mare, she will be awarded the “Vietri Cultura” Lifetime Achievement Award.
