There were forty road victims in Italy last weekend, between Friday 12th and Sunday 14th July.
A “high and worrying” number – as Giordano Biserni, president, underlines of Asaps, the Association of supporters of the Highway Police based in Forlì – and also slightly increasing compared to the previous weekend (39).
A number reinforced by three multiple-fatal accidents, including the one involving four friends who died in the province of Avellino and the three victims (two minors) in a collision between motorcycles in the province of Latina.
The youngest victim was a 14-year-old girl, the oldest an 89-year-old woman, in two separate accidents; 14 were under 35. The dramatic trail of blood for motorcyclists continues, with 21 deaths out of the 40 total victims, more than 50 percent. Then there are 10 motorists, 4 pedestrians, 3 cyclists, a van driver and a tractor driver.
The report considered the deaths of two women aged 50 and 54 and a man aged 69 who were injured over the previous weekend. Vehicle evasion without the involvement of third parties was the cause of 16 fatal accidents, 18 of which occurred on state and provincial roads.
There were 9 victims in Lazio, 7 in Campania, 4 in Lombardy, Veneto and Emilia-Romagna, 3 in Marche, 2 in Piedmont and Puglia, one each in Liguria, Tuscany, Abruzzo, Calabria and Sardinia.
