It has been underway since last night in the Serre area, in the locality Persano, the monitoring of dioxins and furans dispersed in the atmosphere, carried out with a high volume air sampler installed in the area affected by thefire which broke out yesterday in the late afternoon, involving waste stored at a military site.
In the area, Arpac has also installed a sampler for monitoring particulate matter and is evaluating the placement, in the next few hours, of additional equipment in the territory potentially impacted by the environmental consequences of the event.
At the first inspection by the technicians of the Arpac department of Salerno, which took place yesterday evening at the request of the Firefighters, the fire appeared to be in full swing. At first glance, the smoke spread mainly towards the sea and the fire involved waste from sorting plants that had already been shipped across the border and returned to Italy.
This morning, during a new inspection by Arpac technicians, the fire appeared to still be ongoing.
The results of the tests will be released as soon as they are available.
