Naples. This morning Legambiente organized a sit-in in Piazza Municipio in Naples on the occasion of the inauguration of the subway line 6.
The environmental association wanted to express its disappointment for the delays accumulated in the construction of the work and for the poor service that continues to characterize the city's public transport.
At the center of the protest was a banner reading “Sorry for the delay,” accompanied by signs featuring phrases from Massimo Troisi films, such as “All we have left to do is inaugurate” and “Whoever leaves with Anm knows what he’s running away from but doesn’t know what awaits him.”
“Sorry for the delay” – commented the president of Legambiente Campania, Mariateresa Imparato – “this is what the State should tell citizens and commuters given the biblical times it took to build this metro line of only 5,5 km.
The opening of a new line is certainly good news, but on the day when everyone is celebrating, we want to shine a spotlight on the many poor services and the consequences that thousands of commuters in Naples and the province suffer every day. Poor services that citizens pay for in social, economic and health terms”.
Imparato then underlined the need to speed up the construction times of other useful works such as railways, subways and cycle paths: “No more decades of waiting for the opening of a subway!”.
