# Taxi Ride from Salerno to Amalfi Coast Airport Costs 50 Euros, More Than a Low Cost Flight
Controversy has erupted in Salerno over the expensive taxi fares to reach the Costa d'Amalfi airport. The ride costs 50 euros, almost more than some low-cost airline tickets.
Taxi Fare from Salerno to Amalfi Coast Airport
The 50 euro taxi fare between Salerno and the Costa d'Amalfi Airport, located between Bellizzi and Pontecagnano, has attracted much criticism. This airport, recently reopened after years of inactivity, was inaugurated for civil flights in 2008. However, after a few years, it was practically unused.
Protests and Mayor's Intervention
The high fare has caused heated protests, with some users pointing out that the cost is comparable, if not higher, than that of some low-cost flights. The mayor of Salerno, Enzo Napoli, has requested a meeting with the president of the Province to discuss the possibility of controlling the prices of taxis to and from the airport. It is worth noting that, according to the mayor, the issue is outside the jurisdiction of the municipal administration, since the airport is located far from the capital of Salerno, in the territory of the municipalities of the Cilento province.
Connection and Distance Problems
The reopening of the Salerno-Costa d'Amalfi has brought to light several problems for passengers. Many complain about the airport's considerable distance from the centers that bear its name, with Salerno being a good 20 kilometers away. In addition, nearby transportation is poor, with the sole exception of the A2 Salerno-Reggio Calabria highway, whose Montecorvino Pugliano-Pontecagnano Sud junction is only 3 kilometers away.
New Bus Connection Service
From 11 July 2024, a bus connection service between Salerno train station and the airport, called Salerno Airlink, has been introduced. This service, managed by Busitalia Campania, offers 26 weekly trips from 6:00 to 20:00, with a travel time of approximately 40 minutes.
Future Plans to Improve Transportation
Looking to the future, there are plans to extend Salerno's urban rail service to the airport. However, this project is currently still in the planning stage.
By streamlining transportation and addressing fare disputes, Salerno hopes to improve access and usability of the Amalfi Coast Airport for all passengers.
