A Moral Fable for the Protection of the Sea
Dario Vassallo's book is a "moral fable" that narrates the adventures of Biagio, an old fisherman from Maratea, and his grandson during a journey to the Kingdom of the Sea. Through this story, Vassallo explores the delicate balance between man and the marine environment, evoking themes present in Pope Francis' Laudato Si'. The fable represents a powerful appeal for the protection of the marine area of Maratea, underlining the importance of a harmonious coexistence between man and the sea.
Biagio's Story and the Creation of a Marine Protected Area
In the story, Biagio has not ventured into the sea for thirteen years, marked by a tragic event involving his soulmate, the prince of seals. This drama has pushed the marine world to retreat, frightened by the human threat. Driven by his nephew's questions, Biagio decides to return to the sea to reveal his secret: every "good" human being has a soulmate among the sea creatures. However, the salvation of the marine kingdom depends on the creation of a Marine Protected Area, a commitment that old Biagio agrees to take on, in exchange for freedom for the sea and its creatures.
A Message of Hope and Environmental Protection
“With “Maratea and the Monk Seal”, I not only want to tell an enchanting story, but also to shine a spotlight on a cause that is particularly close to my heart: the protection of our sea. This fable is not just a children's story, but a powerful and universal message about the need to restore harmony between man and the environment. The Vassallo Foundation works tirelessly to defend the marine area of Maratea, and through this book, I hope to inspire others to join us in this mission,” said Dario Vassallo, President of the Foundation Angelo Vassallo Mayor Fisherman.
An Evening of Reflection and Celebration
The evening will be a moment of reflection and celebration, enriched by the presence of Rocco Papaleo, who with his talent and sensitivity will add a special touch to the event. It will be an unmissable opportunity to hear directly from the author and a convinced supporter of the cause, the profound reasons and hopes related to the protection of our precious marine heritage.
