During the night, the military personnel of the Judicial Police unit of the Port Authority of Castellammare di Stabia, under the direction of Commander Andrea Pellegrino and coordinated by the Maritime Directorate of Napoli, carried out a major operation to combat illegal fishing and the illegal trade in fish products.
The operation, which began late yesterday evening, involved a dozen soldiers who conducted checks in the territory of Castellammare of Stabia and in the surrounding municipalities.
During the checks, approximately 300 kilograms of various types of fish species were found and seized inside a vehicle, without documentation certifying their origin, the fishing area, the equipment used or the fishing vessel responsible for the capture.
The driver of the vehicle was fined with an administrative penalty of 1.500 euros for possession of untraceable fish product, while the seized seafood and fish were confiscated.
The control of the fishing supply chain, of the storage and marketing centres of the products, together with the surveillance of the coast of competence, represents one of the main tasks of the Coast Guard Corps.
These operations will continue without stopping in the coming days to prosecute those who, driven only by profit, put public health at risk. In recent years, in the area were fished and put on sale clams coming from the mouth of the Sarno, loaded with heavy metals and potentially dangerous.
