Molise reduces water flow to Campania by 20%

Due to the water crisis, the amount of water that the Molise gives in every day to Campania.

Confirming the cut today was Stefano Sabatini, president of 'Molise Acque', a public economic body of the Molise Region: “The flow was reduced because we realized that it was necessary to do so, so we tried to balance the needs of the Molise municipalities with those of the municipalities of the neighboring regions.

There is an agreement between the two regions on the transfer of water. The discussion should be moved to a political level rather than a technical one. The agreement that regulates the supply requires that we must guarantee Campania 700 liters per second, now we are down to 500-550 per second.

If we were to go down further, we would like this limitation of supply to the Campania region to also come from a political input. Our intention is: first the people of Molise.”

Sabatini also clarified another much-discussed issue these days: dry taps in homes have nothing to do with economic issues or disputes between organizations.

“These are two separate issues,” he highlighted. “On the one hand, they concern the management of individual entities, on the other, they concern the concrete management, from a technical and organizational perspective, of the most serious water crisis this region has ever experienced. There is an epochal fact, the springs are low, there is little water.”

The problem of dispersion remains due to leaky water networks, a problem that affects almost all the centers of the region. In Campobasso 66% of the water is lost, the situation is even worse in Bojano and Venafro, where dispersion reaches 80%.

However, there are also virtuous places, especially small municipalities such as those in the Campobasso hinterland, Mirabello and Ferrazzano, where interventions have been carried out and dispersion is much lower.
