The charges concern a long series of extortions committed against merchants and entrepreneurs, even during the pandemic. The extortion was imposed on events such as Christmas and Easter, and even on funeral homes, which were obliged to pay a fixed amount for each funeral.
The preliminary investigations judge of Naples, Fabio Lombardo, has heavily sentenced those responsible, including the clan's leaders at the time of the events. Salvatore Abbellito, Giuseppe Colonia, Salvatore Gallo and Gennaro Battipaglia Gallo have received sentences ranging from 13 to 16 years in prison.
The prosecution, as Il Roma recalls, had defined it as “the women's trial”, speaking of the high criminal calibre of Liberata Colonia, wife of the boss Francesco Gallo but also of Lucia Gallo.
The investigation revealed a disturbing picture: the Gallo-Cavalieri clan had made a pact with their historic rivals, the Giontas, to divide the proceeds of extortion and above all to slow down the rise of the new clan of Fourth System.
The sentences
- Salvatore Gallo, 16 years of imprisonment continued with another sentence;
