Volturno Castle, Doctor under investigation – November 8, 2024 – A 62-year-old doctor, originally from Castel Volturno (Caserta), was investigated by the Padua Public Prosecutor's Office for refusal to perform official duties, interruption of a public service and cooperation in manslaughter in relation to the death of Eleonora Chinello, a 14-year-old girl, which occurred on 28 October at the Eugàneo Hospital.
According to the reconstruction, Eleonora was on her bicycle when she was hit by a car while she was going to catch the bus. The 118 ambulance that rescued the girl had on board Dr. Anna Maria Lamanna. However, according to the reports of the nurses present, the doctor did not even get out of the ambulance, limiting herself to telling the paramedics "do it yourselves" and not intervening in any way to try to save Eleonora.
The nurses immediately reported, and on this basis the investigation was opened by the Padua Prosecutor's Office, led by prosecutor Sergio Dini. Dr. Lamanna, in addition to working in some private facilities in the province of Belluno, had been hired by the professional company Cmp of Granarolo, in the province of Bologna, which provides coverage to the emergency room of the hospital in Piove di Sacco.
In her defense, the doctor stated that she did not freeze in front of the patient, but that she understood the seriousness of the situation and requested immediate reinforcement from the hospital in Padua. However, the Cmp company decided to suspend the doctor from the emergency room service with immediate effect. The investigation by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Padova is still ongoing to shed light on the dynamics of the facts and on the possible responsibilities of Dr. Lamanna in the tragic death of 14-year-old Eleonora Chinello.
