In an unprecedented day of mobilization, thousands of citizens of Gricignano d'Aversa and neighboring municipalities invaded the streets to say a firm no to the construction of the biodigester in the industrial area. A human river colored with banners and signs marched through the streets of the city, shouting slogans against pollution and in defense of health.

The protest, organized by civic committees, associations and local administrations, was a clear signal of dissent towards a project that, according to the protesters, represents a concrete threat to the environment and public health.

“Our land is already wounded, we cannot allow it to be further disfigured”, thundered one of the spokespersons of the committee 'No to biodigester'.

The demonstration saw the participation of numerous students, who marched side by side with their parents and teachers, demonstrating a strong sensitivity towards environmental issues.

The religious world also expressed its closeness to the protest: the Bishop of Aversa, Monsignor Angelo Spinillo, took part in the demonstration, underlining the need to protect the common good and to listen to the citizens' cry of pain.

“We cannot allow our territory to become an open-air landfill,” said the mayor of Gricignano d'Aversa, Vittorio Lettieri. “Our administration is at the side of the citizens and will do everything possible to block this project.”

Regional Councilor Maria Luigia Iodice expressed her solidarity with the protesters, reiterating the importance of protecting citizens' health and enhancing the territory. "Campania has already paid a very high price for illegal waste disposal," Iodice said. "We cannot allow the mistakes of the past to be repeated."

The protest in Gricignano d'Aversa is a clear warning signal for the institutions. Citizens are forcefully demanding that concrete measures be adopted to protect the environment and public health. The battle has just begun and promises to be long and difficult, but the protesters are determined not to give up.
