A 35-year-old man was arrested in Sarno, in the province of Salerno, accused of starting a fire inside the local municipality. The episode dates back to February 7, when the flames spread to the Social Services offices located on the first floor of the municipal building.
The effective intervention of the Fire Department allowed the fire to be quickly put out, limiting the damage. The police officers of the Sarno police station executed a custodial order for the suspect, already known to the police for previous crimes.
The man will face charges of arson and possession of a weapon or instrument capable of being used to injure. The investigation conducted determined that the fire was caused using a flammable liquid.
Law enforcement seized a lighter and a kitchen knife, which authorities believe were used in the crime.
