A 20-year-old and a 16-year-old were stopped by the Salerno Flying Squad on charges of defrauding an elderly woman. The elder of the two was arrested in flagrante delicto, while the minor was ordered to be held in custody by the investigating judge of the Juvenile Court of Salerno, at the request of the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office, the precautionary measure of placement in a community.
The incident dates back to a few hours ago, when a third accomplice, still at large, allegedly contacted the victim, an elderly woman, by telephone, claiming that her nephew had been arrested for running over a woman and that, to avoid worse trouble, it was necessary to urgently pay 14 thousand euros.
At that point, the 16-year-old, accompanied by the 20-year-old who was waiting in the car, went to the woman's house pretending to be a Carabiniere. With this false identity, the two managed to get 550 euros in cash, some gold objects and the victim's ATM card.
A few minutes later, however, the two were intercepted by a patrol of the Flying Squad near the entrance to the A3 motorway towards Naples. During the escape attempt, the driver of the car made a sudden maneuver, injuring a police officer in the right hand. Despite this, the two were stopped and taken to the barracks.
The 20-year-old was arrested in flagrante delicto, while the 16-year-old was reported to the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office. Given the seriousness of the facts and the minor's active role in the fraud, the investigating judge accepted the request of the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office, ordering his placement in a community.
The investigation continues to identify and capture the third accomplice, believed to be the instigator of the scam. In the meantime, the elderly victim has been assisted and supported by the authorities.
