Naples – Last night, the timely intervention of officers from the General Prevention Office and the Dante Police Station foiled an attempted robbery at a business on Via Mariano Semmola.
Two men, a 39-year-old and a 36-year-old, both originally from Marano and already known to law enforcement, were arrested on charges of conspiracy to commit aggravated theft and also charged with conspiracy to receive stolen goods.
The alarm was raised following a report to the Operations Room indicating a theft in progress. Arriving quickly on site, the police immediately noticed an individual on a scooter with the engine running.
At the sight of the officers, the man suddenly accelerated, attempting to escape in the direction of via Giovanni Miranda. A high-voltage chase ensued, during which the fugitive performed maneuvers dangerous for road traffic.
His journey ended in via della Croce Rossa, where the officers, not without difficulty, managed to stop him. Subsequent investigations revealed that the vehicle he was traveling in was the result of a theft reported last April 18.
At the same time, the other officers who remained at the commercial establishment where the attempted theft took place surprised a second man inside. The subject, later identified as the 39-year-old, was trying to hide under some tables.
The police promptly reached him and stopped him, finding in his possession a carpenter's hammer, presumably used to damage the shop window.
