On the bitterest day, that of silence and mourning, words arrive that try to shake consciences. The president of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca, entrusts a very harsh and profound message to social media after the atrocious femicide of Martina, killed in circumstances that left an entire community stunned.
“We experienced Martina's death as the loss of a daughter – writes De Luca – and the atrocious nature of the crime shocked us." A collective pain that, according to the governor, must be transformed into a taking of responsibility, into a clear and definitive rejection of gender violence, especially among the new generations.
In his message, the president makes an appeal to the kids: “May this tragedy push everyone to speak with their own conscience, to decide – in memory of Martina – to repudiate all forms of violence against women”. Then the invitation to stop before the impulse becomes horror: “Let each of us remember, for a moment, the image of a mother or a sister before giving in to aggression. Only in this way can we still be worthy of calling ourselves men.”
