Napoli– The international airport of Napoli-Capodichino is in chaos due to a radar system failure reported this morning by Enav. The malfunction caused the cancellation of 86 flights, of which 43 incoming and 43 outgoing, while three flights were diverted to Salerno.
Heavy delays accumulated, with inconvenience for thousands of passengers. According to sources from Gesac, the company that manages the airports of Naples and Salerno, the problem is linked to a mechanical malfunction of the radar, which emerged after maintenance activity conducted by Enav.
Technicians are working to restore the system, but it is not yet possible to estimate the resolution times. The precautionary reduction of incoming flights was decided to guarantee operational safety, an absolute priority for Enav.
The airport's website is down, probably due to the high number of users looking for information. Airlines are rescheduling cancelled flights, while Gesac is providing assistance to affected passengers.
Enav assures maximum commitment for a rapid return to normality, but the situation remains critical.
