Rome – The 39-year-old Neapolitan woman found responsible for seven incidents of aggravated fraud, defrauding of an incompetent person, and home burglary against elderly people in the capital has ended up in prison.
The woman was arrested by the Carabinieri of the Rome Porta Portese station in the Secondigliano district, in n, in execution of a precautionary custody order issued by the GIP of the Court of Rome, at the request of the Capitoline Prosecutor's Office.
The investigations, launched in January 2023 after a complaint from one of the victims, have shed light on a series of scams carried out between January and May of last year in various neighborhoods of Rome. The military, through the analysis of telephone and internet traffic, surveillance camera footage and testimonies from the victims, have precisely reconstructed the modus operandi of the scammer and her accomplices.
According to what has emerged, the victims – all elderly people between 85 and 96 years old – were contacted by telephone by the woman's accomplices, the so-called "telephonists", who pretended to be nephews or relatives who had been arrested and needed money to pay off hypothetical debts or avoid prison.
Once the elderly man's trust was gained, a meeting was organised to collect the cash or valuables, which was arranged directly by the 39-year-old, who showed up at the victim's home to carry out the scam. The total loot from the seven contested episodes exceeds 200 thousand euros.
In one of the cases, which occurred in the San Pietro area, the woman allegedly acted in the company of a 55-year-old - also from Naples - who had already been arrested by the Carabinieri in October 2024 for a series of scams and extortions against the elderly.
