SOpen – A new crackdown on drug trafficking in the Gulf of Policastro. Carabinieri from the Sapri branch arrested two 45-year-old men, residents of the area, on charges of possession with intent to distribute narcotics.
The operation, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office Lagonegro and culminating in a provision by the investigating judge, led to the two suspects being placed under house arrest, dismantling a drug dealing network active between June and July 2024.
The investigation, conducted by the Operations and Mobile Unit, relied on meticulous field checks and house searches, which led to the seizure of a significant quantity of drugs: 50 grams of heroin, 50 milliliters of methadone, and 20 grams of hashish.
During the investigation, the military also identified and reported twelve drug users to the Prefecture of Salerno, broadening the scope of a phenomenon that continues to worry the area.
The operation is part of a broader investigative effort that, in the previous months, had already led to the arrest of another individual and the reporting at large of two people linked to the same criminal context.
This raid demonstrates the constant commitment of law enforcement in combating drug trafficking in the Gulf of Policastro,” declared a Carabinieri spokesperson, underlining how the area remains under close surveillance to stem an illicit activity that undermines the safety of the community.
Authorities are continuing their investigations to determine any further links in the drug dealing network, while the seizure of narcotics represents a severe blow to the local drug market.
