NApoli—They thought they could get away with a stolen e-bike, but their ride ended on the highway. Two men, aged 29 and 51, both from Naples, were arrested Monday morning by the State Police for the theft of an e-bike.
It all started at the motorway junction of Casoria, where a patrol car from the Naples North Highway Police Subsection, during a routine check, noticed a car with its rear hatch partially open. Part of an electric bicycle was clearly protruding, which immediately aroused the officers' suspicions.
The police then decided to conduct a more thorough investigation. Subsequent investigations and the review of surveillance video, quickly acquired, allowed them to reconstruct the theft that had occurred shortly before. The two men were identified, apprehended, and taken into custody pending judicial decisions.
The theft of the e-bike, an increasingly popular and attractive vehicle on the black market, is just the latest in a long series of incidents demonstrating the central role of new technologies, even in predatory crimes. In this case, however, it was the cameras that signaled the end of the escape.
