PPozzuoli – A tragedy struck Pozzuoli this afternoon, where an 18-year-old man lost his life in a serious road accident.
The victim, Augusto di Meo, son of well-known local restaurateurs and originally from Monterusciello, was riding his motorcycle when, for reasons still under investigation, he collided violently with a car.
The fatal impact and the chilling scene
The impact was devastating. The young man was thrown from his scooter, flying over a hundred meters before landing on the entrance and exit ramp of the tunnel below. A violent impact that left him with no chance of escape.
The scene that first responders saw was horrifying: the destroyed scooter, wedged between two traffic signs, and the lifeless body of the young man on the road below. Initial aid, provided by passing motorists and 118 paramedics, was unfortunately in vain. All attempts at resuscitation were unsuccessful.
Investigations underway and tunnel closed
On the site of the tragedy they arrived immediately Carabinieri and the Municipal Police to begin investigations and reconstruct the exact circumstances of the accident. Meanwhile, the tunnel connecting the hamlets of Lucrino and Arco Felice has been closed to traffic to allow for rescue operations and surveys by the authorities, causing inevitable disruption to local traffic.
The Carabinieri, who are conducting the investigation, are trying to reconstruct the exact circumstances of the collision. They have already interviewed several witnesses and the driver of the car into which the 19-year-old crashed. The motorcycle and car have been seized. The driver has also undergone tests to determine whether he was fit to drive at the time of the crash.
